Guards are fairly commonplace in the exclusive Newport Coast region of California’s Orange County. But the addition of another one is getting some extra attention this month because of his stature in the sports world. Former Los Angeles Clippers guard Corey Maggette has become at least the second NBA player to buy a home in the majestic hills overlooking the Newport Beach coastline.
Public records show that Maggette, 31, paid $3 million for a five-bedroom, 5 1/2-bathroom home with a canyon view near the top of Newport Coast. The home is relatively close to two Pelican Ridge homes owned by Los Angeles Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant.
According to the website operated by Tim Carr, the seller’s real estate agent, Maggette’s new home sits on a 13,000-square-foot lot in the Pelican Heights neighborhood at the end of a cul de sac. The listing states: “This immaculate Mediterranean residence enjoys the ideal floor plan and yard for indoor/outdoor entertaining. French doors open up to a generous patio, expansive yard and a gorgeous pavilion with built-in barbecue and outdoor fireplace. This property offers an attached four car garage, separate laundry room and ample storage.”
The 10-year-old home has 4,800 square feet of space and is adorned with “high-end finishes,” the listing goes on to state. Public records show that Maggette, who last season played for the Milwaukee Bucks, closed escrow on the home in August. The home originally listed for just under $3.5 million in June, according to records.
